Oceans 999 – Celebrating Year of the Dog

chinese new year, year of the dog, happy new year, pan pacific vancouver

This past Sunday Oceans 999 rang in the Chinese New Year, celebrating the year of the Dog.  This Lunar year predicts that endeavours based on greed and individual drive will likely be rejected while nurturing family relationships will be important during this year. It’s also a good time to make lifestyle changes, such as quitting smoking or starting a new business. This could be a year of hope, filled with dialogue that helps cultures achieve solidarity and reject indifference.

Whole families participated in this annual celebration, enjoying a bounty of both Asian and western delicacies.  It was nice to see the faces of many who have made this a traditional family affair join us again, despite the snow and coldfor our famous Chinese New Year’s Brunch.

The sparkling harbour, sunny blue skies and snow-capped mountains provided a stunning backdrop for a talented young pianist and sheng musician, Zhongxi Wu and the Golden Pearl Ensemble, who entertained guests with this unique instrument The Shengis a free reed instrument consisting of vertical pipes and is one of the oldest Chinese instruments, dating back to 5000 BC.

We thank everyone who attended this special celebration with us and wish everyone good health and prosperity in the Lunar Year of the dog.
