It’s our 25th Anniversary too! – By Peter Diemer
Yesterday afternoon I had the pleasure of catching up with Mr. Peter Diemer – a very special guest of ours at the Pan Pacific Vancouver.
25 long years ago, the Hotel opened its doors for the first time [watch the video]. I know this was a long time ago because I was 14 months old at the time…but that’s besides the point. 25 years ago also happened to be when Peter and his wife celebrated the first night of their honeymoon at the Pan Pacific Vancouver. Now 25 years later to the day, they were welcomed back for a silver anniversary visit, right in their backyard – Vancouver, B.C.
– Peter Diemer and his family lived in Vancouver from 1983 to 1985 and then moved to Torono, Ontario. They missed the city so much, they moved back permanently in 2002. Here is his story:
Where did the last 25 years go????
I’m writing this post with very fond memories, of not only the last couple of days, but the last 25+ years with my incredible wife. It’s been a great journey and I feel like we’re only getting started and onto the next chapter now.
In 1986, we lived in Toronto, having moved there from Vancouver. Back on August 2nd, 1986 we were married in Calgary in an afternoon ceremony and following the reception we flew out to Vancouver, on the way to Hawaii and spent our honeymoon night at The Pan Pacific Vancouver.
That summer, Vancouver was in the middle of a huge celebration – a world’s fair – Expo 86 and The Pan Pacific was a brand new hotel and the center of attention at Canada Place. It was a beautiful then and it’s still beautiful today and is still at the center of everything.
We had the opportunity to spend the night of our 25th Anniversary back in The Pan Pacific Hotel in Vancouver. A lot of things have happened in the last 25 years in the world and in our own personal circle, we’ve moved back to Vancouver, have 3 great kids and love living on the west coast again.
It was wonderful to be warmly received back to the Property and to have a special welcome from the General Manager, Tim Tindle and his staff. Our room was marvellous, the food, the drinks, the pool deck overlooking the harbour, the cruise ships, the float planes and the majestic views of the North Shore and the bike ride around Stanley Park made it all special. The 2nd honeymoon, extended version will come when the rains return to the west coast, in the meantime, we’ll continue to enjoy the summer here and it won’t be another 25 years until we return to The Pan Pacific!
Thank you for your story Peter, you’re always welcome back at the Pan Pacific Vancouver!
