Dine Out Vancouver: A Visit to Five Sails Restaurant
Presented by Tourism Vancouver from January 24 – February 6 is Dine Out Vancouver, BC’s largest celebration of food and British Columbia wine.
Dine Out is Vancouver’s ultimate eating experience, allowing patrons to choose from over 200 restaurants, offering unique 3 course menus at affordable prices – $18, $28 or $38.
This year, I thought I’d make my first visit to Five Sails Restaurant to sample one of this year’s most anticipated menus.
The restaurant overlooking the waterfront offers award winning cuisine and a birds eye view of Stanley Park and the Coastal Mountains.
For this year’s menu, you can choose from 3 appetizers, 3 main courses and 2 dessert selections.
Main course items included:
• Homemade potato gnocchi, vine riped tomato and caper butter (choice of adding 1/2 fresh Atlantic Lobster)
• Horseradish crusted orghanic steelhead salmon with Dungeness crab leg, vegetables in season
• Braised Alberta beef & glazed AAA whole roasted tenderloin, dollop of Bearnaise sauce, potato mille-feuilles, vegatables in season
The creamy red kurri squash risotto w/ shaved parmigiano reggiano and sauteed wild Pacific prawns
For the main course, I went with the Steelhead salmon with Dungeness crab leg. Fresh, filling and the perfect sauce to compliment – I definitely recommend this one!
The best for last! For dessert, we chose the Luxe lemon mille-feuilles, w/ delicate layers of crisp phyllo pastry & chilled lemon cream. Sooo good!
The atmoshphere at the Five Sails is elegant, classy and if need be….romantic! There are few restaurants that can compare in food quality and the scenery is unmatched.
The husband and wife team of Chef Ernst Dorfler and Gerry Sayers showcase their culinary experience with delicious modern classics with European influences inspired by the West Coast region. The friendly couple always enjoy chatting with guests and answering questions, so be sure to ask for them at your next visit!
